One of those times it's really handy to have a blog

This is the original version of an illustration to a short story by Daniel Dee that will be printed in the next issue of the Zone 5300. Only they asked me to make a black and white drawing, which they got, but just because it felt right this is the drawing I had in mind.

Guess where this came from.

For those who missed it

This past month I illustrated four poems for the Nrc-Handelsblad.
It was for their children's page, and a lot of fun.
Here are the illustrations without the poems.

New camera-fun

I like cake, there's no getting around it, I love it. It drives me to make pictures like this

Fortunately sometimes you can make something out of the things you like. Such as this.

Exclusive - only here! - only now!

Well, the now-thing may not be entirely true.

But you won't see the picture below anywhere else. I made it last week as an illustration for the children's page of the NRC-handelsblad. Only, when I was just about ready to send the whole thing to the paper I got a new idea; a better one in fact. So working furiously I drew a new picture, one I was mightily satisfied with, I might add. That's the illustration they're going to print. Fortunately I have this blog so I can show you my first attempt. In the end I don't think it's a particularly bad illustration, but it's a little too showy and fragmented.

Oh and here's a little sketch of two figures from Romanian folklore

It may be nature, but that doesn't mean it isn't kitsch

Last week, for a couple of days it looked like we were going to enjoy a real winter for a change, but the day I took a camera out with me everything was back to the usual damp mess we have here. Still, it didn't look half bad, did it?
