What I fill my sketchbooks with
Back in august I demonstrated a certain level of fanboy-ishness by posting sketches of characters from the Harry Potter books, something I'm afraid I'm now going to repeat. Next month the film The Golden Compass will be released, which could be described as a palimpsest of the first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. Those of you who know me are probably aware that I rather like these books. And when I rather like books like that I tend to make lots of sketches inspired by them. In this case my desire to post these drawings came from revulsion.
While the film looks rather nice, they certainly did a good job in creating the story's parallel universe, the concept art is for the most part just plain hideous.
I can't describe it better than that. It's the worst sort of digital painting.
Here's a link to a page with some of it: http://movies.ign.com/articles/833/833839p1.html
Now I'm not saying my drawings are infinitely better, but they're a little less synthetic.
