New Book and a giveaway!

Hey all,
continuing with the catching up, here's another post regarding recent goings on. This saturday while engaged in sawing and hacking wood all day (for the stove) the mailman delivered a box filled with the last book I illustrated.
I made it this summer, well actually it should have been spring, but I was in America getting engaged to someone wonderful and that somewhat lessened my productivity.
But the art director didn't mind my tardiness (so much), and here it finally is.

The book is about a young boy whose mother has won the lottery, so naturally some bad guys decide to dress up as tv-show presenters and kidnap him under the guise of taking him to the studio. It's all very exciting, and the end is happily as happy it can be.
Oh and there's an important part for a guinea pig too.

I was trying out all sorts of new things while making it, which is also why it took so long. I'm not entirely happy with every illustration in it, but there are some pictures in it I'm quite fond of. And I learned a lot while making it.

Now, since I don't exactly need 25 copies of the same book (my bookcases are full enough as it is) I've decided to give away 5 of them.
If you leave a comment here and tell me your favourite book about kidnapped children or boys and pets, I'll pick five winners.

Edit
- Alright I'm changing the rules a bit, as I can't actually think of any childrens' books about kidnapped children myself either. So it's just boys and pets.
I know plenty of books about that, so I'm sure you have a favourite one as well.
So I'll pick five people who comment, with a little preference maybe for those who can name a good book about stolen kids.

The deadline is next monday at midnight (14-12 western european time).

I'll announce the winners next week.

Here's what you can win:

My favourite book isn't about kidnapped children or pets, but it has stolen my imagination for years! I love Roald Dahl's Dirty Beasts, its a fun collection of short stories/poems that capture childrens imaginations and let them run wild!!! Love it and have kept my copy for my childhood to hopefully one day pass it on to my children. I know this doesn't fit in to what you wanted, but wasn't going to lie about what my favourite book is to hopefully win one of your illustrated ones. zonie x

I think I'm going to just have to say Calvin and Hobbes. Given, Hobbes isn't an actual pet tiger because of his doll-situation but they are totally best friends like pets should be. And I love Hobbes, I do.

It's got to be Maurice Sendak's "Outside, Over There."

Kidnapped baby, little ice baby left in it's place -- it's a masterpiece.

I'll have to say Roald Dahl's BFG. Nothing more frightening and suspended as that disoriented kidnapping, seeing a giant walking down the streets at night, being grabbed and moving super fast over landscapes until finally being able to talk with him and plead you case for survival. I thought she was going to die.

ahh Jordie won me in this one, Calvin and Hoooooobbes!!

Calvin & Hobbes or Where the Red Fern Grows.

I suppose that Hansel & Gretel could be considered to have a kidnapping theme. The witch did keep Hansel in a cage with the intent to fatten him up and eat him.
That was one of my favorite childhood stories - though mostly because I wanted a house made of candy with spun sugar windows.

This book looks so good!! I don't know a kidnap story, except for Hansel+Gretel which scared me as hell as a kid, mainly because I lived next to a forest. Boys and pets: As a kid I loved Snoopy +the Peanuts although I didn't get many of the jokes. My 1st own kids' book was about a boy and his dog, it's my top favourite subject.

My favourite book about a boy and his pet is 'Penguin' by Polly Dunbar. I actually have two picture books where boys get penguins as pets, and both deal with the issue of what happens when you get a pet but the experience isn't quite what you expected. But Polly Dunbar's is my favourite because it's really simple but hilarious... all it consists of is the boy trying to get a reaction out of the penguin. There's a lovely scene (beautifully drawn) where he has a tantrum. I guess kids can really relate to the theme of looking for attention!
The only kind-of-kidnapping story I could think of was Roald Dahl's 'The Witches'... the boy doesn't exactly get kidnapped but he does get captured and turned into a mouse by them. I can't quite remember how it ends but I have a feeling he ends up staying a mouse forever...

Funny it was very hard to come up with a kidnapping story...perhaps the classics like Hansel and gretel. Love your work and there is a chicken on the cover of this book..must have! I also love your holiday card....I will buy off you if you are selling!! :-)

ooh! i would love to have one of these books! well, as for stories, for some reason all i can think of is the classic 'old yeller'. i know there are tons more. maybe after i wake up a bit more can think a little more clearly :)

There's a manga series called Psychic Academy about a young boy and his pet rabbit-thing. The rabbit is actually some sort of ninja wizard master, but also a perve.
Other than that I can only think of the Rainbow Brite books I read when I was little. All the rainbow kids had those fluffy small sprite things and were constantly being kidnapped by Murky and Lurky.
